ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship and Opportunity Program – An Overview

The amount is CHF 12,000 (about $12,987) per semester as well as a tuition fee waiver. Application Process for the ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship and Opportunity Program

The ESOP application goes concurrently with the ETH Zurich master’s degree application. You can access the online Master’s degree application eApply page here.

ETH Bachelor students can also use this for a consecutive Master’s program.

Applicants are required to apply for this program within the first application window. The application window for the 2021-2022 program will be open between November 1 and December 15, 2021

Eligibility and Requirements for the ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship and Opportunity Program

1. An applicant for the program is expected to be a grade A student and among the top 10% of their Bachelor’s degree program table.
2. Anyone who is already enrolled in a Master’s degree program at ETH Zurich or who holds a Master degree from elsewhere is not eligible for ESOP scholarships.
3. Other pre-qualifying requirements will be determined during the interview. So, every applicant is advised to ensure that they are reachable via the telephone number specified in their CV because the selection process might include a phone/video interview which is expected to hold in February 2022. 

Required Documents

If you are interested in and qualified for this program, you can apply for it concurrently with the master’s degree program. So, apart from the documents for the Master’s admission, you will need to upload a pre-proposal for your master thesis. The pre-proposal for the Master’s thesis must be original to you while complying with established scientific citation practices. As a guide, plagiarism, as well as misinformation, will lead to the disqualification of an applicant. If the master study program to which an applicant has subscribed does not ask for references, they are required to name two reference persons for the ESOP application. 

The Selection Process for the ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship and Opportunity Program

It is expected that about 60 ESOP scholarships will be awarded for the 2022/23 academic year. The applications are vetted by the Admissions Committees of the various participating Master’s programs. Then, the final decision for the award of the scholarship lies with the Rector of ETH Zurich. As for the exact number of annual scholarships, it depends on the available funds for the year. The final decisions are expected to be communicated by the end of March 2022.
